Our August meeting will be held on this Monday the 18th at 6:00 PM.  We will be welcoming speakers from the Vermont Collaborative, Food and Water Watch and our new Neighborhood Prosecutor Bethelwel Wilson.

The Vermont Collaborative was born out of the L.A. Times article entitled “Death Alley” about the inordinate amount of violence that has dogged the area on Vermont Ave. between Manchester Ave. and Imperial Hwy for many years.  Sixty plus organizations meet bi-weekly to plan strategies around affecting a decrease violence and increasing the quality of life in the areas between Florence Ave. and 120th St. and Van Ness Ave. to the 110 Fwy.  Participating members include LAPD, LASD, Council District 8 & 9 representatives, County District 2 representatives and a host of other community organizations and non-profits.  They will be discussing the purpose of the collaborative and informing the stakeholders about their upcoming event in September.

Food & Water Watch works to ensure the food, water and fish we consume is safe, accessible and sustainably produced. So we can all enjoy and trust in what we eat and drink, they help people take charge of where their food comes from, keep clean, affordable, public tap water flowing freely to our homes, protect the environmental quality of oceans, force government to do its job protecting citizens, and educate about the importance of keeping the global commons — our shared resources — under public control.  They will be speaking about ensuring the moratorium on Fracking in Los Angeles is made permanent.

Bethelwel Wilson is our new Neighborhood Prosecutor that will be supporting the community served by the LAPD 77th division.  We have specifically asked him to define the purpose of the Neighborhood Prosecutor Program, discuss the progress on closing illegal Medical Marijuana Dispensaries within our area, and inform the stakeholders on the process to get nuisance properties and activities addressed.
See you on Monday!
