DESCRIPTION:Help End Pretexutal Stops in Los Angeles \nIn May\, the City Council voted unanimously to ban pretextual traffic stops by the LAPD. Pretextual stops are when officers use a minor violation\, like a broken taillight\, as an excuse to go on a fishing expedition for evidence of a more serious crime. LAPD’s data shows that most of these traffic stops occur in South LA\, and 86% of pretextual stops are of Black and Brown drivers.
