At our August 25, 2025 Special Meeting, we installed the newly elected board and voted in officers:
- President: Tunisia Johnson
- Vice President: Dominica Robbins-Wilson
- Secretary: Daniel Fuller
- Treasurer: Sha’De Chapman
Stakeholders were excited to see the board in session. We heard a lot of public comment including:
- Concerns about vacant lots
- Vacant lot at 83rd and Western possibly being developed for Permanent Supportive Housing
- Need for street lighting
- Auto shops taking up street parking
- Exhorting the board to keep quorum, so they may attend to community business
- Street takeovers
- Request for holiday Christmas lights on Vermont between Manchester and Florence
- Need for traffic lights and speed humps
CD8’s Roberto Perez provided a brief presentation on Western our Way. The project is focused on 4.5 miles of pedestrian and transit rider improvements on the Western Avenue corridor from Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd to the north, intersecting the 10-mile east-west Metro Rail-to-Rail Active Transportation Corridor at Slauson Avenue and continuing south to Century Blvd. Adjacent local streets, Denker Avenue, two blocks to the east, and Gramercy Avenue, two blocks to the west, will be transformed into critically needed neighborhood bike network streets with traffic calming.
Plans have been underway since 2022 with more community feedback sessions planned for October. Stakeholders were excited about news of a planned traffic circle at 92nd Street and Grammercy Place.
