May 7, 2026 The Los Angeles City Council voted unanimously to end the LAPD’s use of pretextual stops which disproportionately affect black and brown drivers. The pretextual stop is used to stop somebody for a small violation in search of a larger one.
While this issue has been significant for quite some time, it was propelled further forward when Council President Marqueece Harris-Dawson was stopped on the way to work recently.
